Using the Backstrap Loom (a technique over 2,000 years old), Mayan women weave "Huipiles" (blouses). Each village has a specific pattern; during times of conflict, these textiles became a silent form of resistance, signaling identity and community belonging when language was suppressed.

The Mola is created using reverse appliqué. Multiple layers of colored cloth are stitched together and then cut away to reveal the colors beneath. Originally based on ancient body painting traditions, Molas evolved into fabric panels that tell stories of the "Galapu" (cosmos) and the protection of the natural world.

The Lenca are masters of the Backstrap Loom, an ancient tool where the weaver’s own body provides the tension.Because of the cold, Lenca weaving focuses on warmth.Their textiles are famous for their brilliant, saturated colors such as pinks, greens, and blues, which contrast sharply with the earthy tones of the mountains. Many believe these colors represent the vibrant local flora and the spiritual energy of the forest.
