Fashion

__________________________________________________________

Fashion during the Italian Renaissance became a statement of power and wealth. Designers sought to create pieces that were structured and elegant, with the intentions of emphasizing natural beauty. They blended art and culture to create timeless styles. Because fashion during the Italian renaissance was largely associated with social status, women were expected to dress in luxury, high quality clothing. Their Jewelry, accessories, and cosmetics also had to meet high societal standards. Men’s clothing during this time featured a wide range of colors. They often wore hemlines (a dress like material) with stockings. The fashion trends in this period were set by those who were upper-class, aristocrats, and patricians. Those who were of a particular high class, for example those of the Royal Family, hired private fashion designers to style them. Because creating textures were so expensive and time-consuming, a lot clothing during the renaissance period was often recycled being cut, re-stitched, and reused for something else. Due to many pieces being recycled, there are very few clothing items that survived from the Renaissance period.
